At Keele University we are interested in finding out more about access to music-making.
We are particularly interested in donations of unwanted musical instruments, whether these come from decluttering, bereavement, or serendipity. We want to find out more about what donating an instrument means to the donor, and how it affects their wellbeing and sense of identity.
We also want to know more about what happens to donated instruments, and are working closely with a number of local, national and international organisations involved in collecting and repurposing instruments.
This project is supported by the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion.
Upcoming research event: SIMM-posium 5 to be held in Brussels, 18-19 December 2020, organised by the Social Impact of Making Music. Call for papers closes 1 June 2020, click for more information.
